Bringing Dead Circumstances To Life Pt 1

Read Ezekiel 37:1- 10

By 586 BC Jerusalem was destroyed, Solomon’s Temple, the glory of Israel, was in ashes and Israel’s people had been taken into captivity in Babylon. There was only a remnant of the nation left in Jerusalem.

Ezekiel was around 25 yrs old when he was taken. Trained as a priest, his plan was that by the age of 30 he would be ministering in the Temple of Solomon. He had plans and dreams that didn’t involve being a prisoner far from home.

But God also had a plan! He had not misplaced Ezekiel in captivity and it was in exile in Babylon that Ezekiel had his first prophetic vision (Ezekiel 1:1,3) “I was by river Chebar among the exiles, the heavens were opened and I saw visions of God. The word of the Lord came to Ezekiel, ...there the hand of Lord was on him.”

As a captive in Babylon Ezekiel may have thought his life and ministry were over. But it was in captivity that the heavens were opened. At perhaps his darkest hour, when all hope was gone, the hand of God came on him and he fulfilled his destiny. Wherever you find yourself today, no matter how hopeless, God has permitted you to be there, see your valley as a divine appointment, an opportunity. God is with you, He will never leave you nor forsake you. Acts 7:9 Joseph, another exile, was taken captive to Egypt where God wanted him to impact the nation.

Ezekiel 37 is the story of a Babylonian graveyard. Are you living in a graveyard of financial failure; a graveyard of dead love in your marriage; a graveyard of ill health, failure, sin or pornography? In the valley of dry bones Ezekiel is surrounded by utter hopelessness and desolation and then God speaks.

But God asks Ezekiel “can these bones live?”

Ezekiel replies “Sovereign Lord you alone know.” God can make the humanly unthinkable possible. He led Israel through the impossible to cross the Red Sea; when Sarah was 90 years old God told her she would have a son. (Genesis 18:14) and her response is: “is anything too hard for the Lord?” Jesus told his disciples in Matthew 19:26 “with men this is impossible; but with God all things are possible.”

Within the valley of dry bones we see a two-fold strategy

1. The word of the Lord

“Dry bones, hear the word of the Lord.” Ezekiel 37:4 Transformation starts by hearing the word of the Lord. Prophesy the word, declare the word, over your dry bones! God asked Ezekiel to speak His word to the dry bones before him. “So I prophesied as I was commanded. And as I was prophesying, there was a noise, a rattling sound, and the bones came together, bone to bone.” Ezekiel 37:7

Notice it says here “as I prophesied”, not as I looked, not as I thought or considered or had a pity party but as I prophesied. Speak to your situation, release the life of God into it by starting to declare God's word over it. Your situation is awaiting your directions, your instructions; you give the directions and the instructions and something will happen; if you don’t nothing will change. Proverbs 18:21   says “death and life are in power of tongue.” When you walk close to God, are much in prayer and God’s word, your words are often like prophesies that God fulfills. The key to this message is maintaining a close walk with the Lord. Like Ezekiel, say “dry bones, hear the word of Lord”, declare, prophesy what you want to see happen. Declare: marriage you are restored; declare, I am healed; prophesy, finances, you are blessed.

We need to release God’s word, to stir up what God has spoken to you, to declare His promises, to get in the devil’s face and crush his head.

Many of the sermons you are now hearing at Church Unlimited are prophetic words but they’re not just for the church, they are prophetic words for our lives also. “New Era of Conquest” - God’s will is to give you victory where you have known defeat; “Acceleration of Expansion” - God wants to enlarge your territory, to increase your influence; “Lord of Mighty Breakthroughs”; “Supernatural Vocation” - take your career to a whole new place of blessing, power and influence; “Global Minister”; “Leave Me Astounded”. Prophetic messages contain power to bring dry bones to life. Make these prophetic declarations to your dry bones.

The first stage was to hear the word of the Lord - the result was that bones came together, tendons and flesh appeared on them and skin covered them. The bones became corpses, but there was no life, no breath, in them. The second aspect of the strategy is to bring the bones to life.

2. The Spirit of God.

God said to Ezekiel, “Prophesy to the breath” saying “‘Come, breath, from the four winds and breathe into these slain, that they may live.’” So I prophesied as he commanded me, and breath entered them; they came to life and stood up on their feet—a vast army.” Ezekiel 37:9-10

Such is the power of the Word and the Spirit working together. When the wind of the Spirit begins to blow everything changes. The breath and wind of God in Ezekiel’s boneyard is same wind and breath that came on day of Pentecost and filled bodies of the 120 disciples with the Holy Spirit (Acts 2:4). And turned the world upside down.

Revival came to the valley.

In life we experience valleys, we can’t always be on the mountaintop. Yes, God met Elijah on mountaintop, gave the law to Moses on the mountain but He also met Elijah in the valley when he wanted to end his life, He met Moses in the wilderness at the burning bush. God’s reach goes from the highest mountaintop to the lowest valley. He's the God of the mountains and the valleys. He knows how to show up in the valley. Here we see revival in the valley, we see new life, we see victory.

Are you facing a valley of dry bones? No matter how hopeless your circumstances God can turn them around and breath life into them. Begin to prophesy, make declarations to your dry bones. You will hear a shaking and a coming together. God will work miracles and do the impossible. Is anything too hard for the Lord?
