Open Door Into God's Presence

Open Door Into God’s Presence

Strange things happened the day the Son of God was crucified, such strange things that it’s clear his death was supremely significant.

"And Jesus cried out again with a loud voice, and yielded up His spirit.
Then, behold, the veil of the temple was torn in two from top to bottom; and the earth quaked, and the rocks were split, and the graves were opened; and many bodies of the saints who had fallen asleep were raised; and coming out of the graves after His resurrection, they went into the holy city and appeared to many." Matthew 27:50-53 NKJV.

Jesus let out a shout of victory with “It is finished”. His mission was over. What happened next is amazing. The curtain secluding the holy place in the temple was split from top to bottom; the earth shook. It was an astounding event.

Why did the veil have to be split?

For almost 1,500 years the veil in the temple had separated mankind from the presence of God. For all that time the Temple priests were the only ones allowed into God's presence. Then Jesus died on the cross and the veil torn in two. the sign saying 'No Access' was replaced with one saying 'Welcome'. Suddenly there was access for all right into the very presence of God. The tearing of the veil signified one of the most powerful events in history of the world and the story of God’s relationship with mankind. The thing that separated God and man had been removed.

Sacrifices and sin

The Old Testament records a complex system of sacrifices and temporary atonement for sins.

But in those sacrifices there is a reminder of sins every year. For it is not possible that the blood of bulls and goats could take away sins. Hebrews 10:3-4 NKJV

However, in the New Testament, everything changes. The blood of Jesus shed on the cross is God's permanent solution to this temporary system. Jesus is the "Lamb of God who takes away the sin of the world”.

Blood of Jesus has once and for all dealt with the issue of sin. Now there is no further need to offer sacrifices. Now, the Holy of Holies is suddenly open and accessible to all.

"Let us therefore come boldly to the throne of grace, that we may obtain mercy and find grace to help in time of need." hebrews 4:16 NKJV

We can approach God with boldness and make our requests known. Even though the devil himself would love to shut us out from presence of God he can’t. None of us have committed a sin the blood of Jesus cannot deal with.

"If we confess our sins, He is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness." 1 John 1:9 NKJV

There is a story of a hotel keeper who went to a meeting where evangelist, Charles Finney, was speaking and questioned him about this. "I heard you say the blood of Jesus cleanses us from all sin, nut I've been a vile husband to my wife, is there forgiveness for a man such as I?" Finney replied, "the blood of Jesus cleanses from all sin." The hotel keeper went on, "I have a beautiful daughter but in a fit of reage I threw a pot of boiling water over her face and she is scarred for life. Is there forgiveness for a man such as I? Finney replied, "the blood of Jesus cleanses from all sin." The hotel keeper then showed Finney a revolver, he said, my barman shot one man with this and I shot another, is there forgiveness for a man such as I? Finney replied again, "the blood of Jesus Christ cleanses from all sin".

It’s true, the blood of Jesus cleanses from all sin.

"But now in Christ Jesus you who once were far off have been brought near by the blood of Christ." Ephesians 2:13 NKJV

An open door

Nothing remains between you and God but an open door. The barrier of sin is down. He has removed the curtain. We live in a world of closed doors, shut doors, our homes are fenced, gates barred. Other religions put barriers between their followers and their gods but christianity, faith in God through the shed blood of Jesus is different, it is unique.

No other religion offers its followers friendship and relationship with God. This is amazing grace.

There are no barriers between you and God. You can enter fully into his presence any time, any day. The great veil of the temple, which symbolised the gulf between God and man, was torn in two, the keep out sign was ripped down and replaced with a welcome mat.

We can now boldly enter His presence.
