Time - Your Most Valuable Asset

A few weeks ago while driving, Holy Spirit spoke clearly to me. "Tak, I want you to be accountable to me for your time."

Ephes 5v15-17 : "See then that you walk circumspectly, not as fools but as wise, redeeming the time, because the days are evil. Therefore do not be unwise, but understand what the will of the Lord is."

Redeeming the time- The thought here is to get back from the devil’s grasp, or don’t be ripped off with your time.

Bible says your life is a

Breeze (Ps 78:39) they were but flesh, a passing breeze.

Breath (Ps 39:6) Each man's life is but a breath.

Mist (James 4:14) You are a mist that appears for a little while  then vanishes.

Five key words to redeeming the time:

1. Seek first-
(Matthew 6:33)  Seek first the Kingdom of God and His righteousness, and all these things shall be added to you.
This is the filter to pass everything you do through. Your sole purpose and supreme goal is to seek fist the Kingdom of God, do His will for your life. You can be sure the devil will use every cunning scheme he has to divert you from what is most important so you don’t receive your eternal rewards.

2. Learn- Managing your time can be learned. (Psalm 90:12) Teach us to number our days aright, that we may gain a heart of wisdom. The Key word here is "teach". Ask God to teach you how to use your time wisely. You can be taught how to be more effective with using your time. Ask God.

3. Choose-  One of the most amazing things God allows us all to do is choose how we live.
Read Luke 19:12,13, 16- 20, 22

Someone computes that if you live to be 70 years old, you will spend 23 years sleeping......

Problem is not with lack of time. It can be with our choices,  not using our time wisely. We can make poor choices of what we do with our time.

Joshua 24:15  "Choose for yourselves this day whom you will serve…as for me and my house, we will serve the LORD."

Luke 10:42 "One thing is needed, and Mary has chosen that good part." Greatest choice in use of time, time with God

All of life flows out of that vital discipline. Like God says, be with Me the first hour of the day and I will be with you the next 23 hrs. If you don’t plan your time, someone else including the devil will. We all have the exact same amount of time, 168 hours a week. Then how come some people are more effective than us, more successful, get more done?

Selection is key. Out of all you can do, select the right priorities. We have to re-evaluate our choices all the time, because we can easily stray off course. God can guide us in our choices.

4. Analyse-
(Eph 5:15) "Walk circumspectly not as fools but as wise". Look carefully at how you live. Pray and work out your purpose in life, God’s will for you, why God has placed you on His earth. There is huge purpose for your existence today find out what it is. You can be at the mercy of whatever hits you, or you can chart your path.

Take a good look at what eats up most of your time, because that’s eating up your life?

It’s like in money, you need to watch it carefully, control it with a budget and not waste it. If you spend and spend without looking at the bank balance, you may get a shock at overdraft, power bill. Budget determines where you want your money to go, rather than wondering where it went.

John Wesley and F B Meyer; men who achieved a huge amount in and influenced the world, they used to divide their lives into periods of 5 mins. The goal was to use each period well. Not suggesting you do this. But here's a suggestion.

For 2 days write down what you did, how much time it took. It will be tedious. But you will learn.

5. Prioritize-- Eph 5:17  "do not be unwise, but understand what the will of the Lord is." One translation says "do not be foolish." Wisdom is involved. Understand what God’s will is. We are to focus our time and energy on God’s will for our life.

If my rewards in heaven are based on what I do now, then I need to ask, am I doing the right things with my time, my money, gifts and everything else?

What is God’s will for you? To grow in your relationship with God, to serve Him with your gifts, love your neighbour and family as yourself, to be salt and light, share the good news.

God doesn't expect you to do everything and not everything is worth doing. But you are responsible to do what God put you on this planet to do. Learn to say NO.

You can’t please everybody. Even Jesus can’t please everybody. Only a fool would try to do what God can’t do. If you can’t do everything, then you will have to disappoint some people.

Quote-There's time enough, but none to spare. Charles W. Chesnutt

We can all say I have just enough time to do God’s will.

Jesus in just 3 years did all He needed to do. Left nothing undone.  He was a great success, saved the world, trained up disciples and got His words recorded.

All in 3 years. At the end of His life He said in John 17 v 4; "I have finished the work which you have given me to do."
